Frequently Asked Questions

Can a cracked windscreen be fixed?

If your windscreen is only chipped, it can usually be repaired, provided the chip meets the criteria for size and position (see below). However, if the glass is cracked, it cannot be repaired, and a replacement is required.

Can I drive around with a cracked windshield?

Federal regulations state that you cannot drive with a windshield crack or chip larger than 3/4 inch in diameter, two cracks within three inches of each other, intersecting cracks, or cracks directly in the driver’s view.

Can I drive with a cracked windscreen in SA?

It is important to recognize that the National Road Traffic Act only stipulates what is required in terms of the quality of windscreen used and the need to ensure visibility for the driver. It does not make it illegal to drive where the crack is not in the view of the driver and does not obstruct his vision.

Can you drive with a cracked windscreen?

Driving with a cracked windscreen can be considered a motoring offence. It could constitute use of a motor vehicle in a dangerous condition. The Highway Code states that drivers should have a full view of the road ahead and glass should be maintained in a good condition.

Will a cracked windshield shatter while driving?

Under specific circumstances, yes, your windshield could shatter if it has a crack that compromises its integrity. However, it won’t shatter and spray tiny shards of glass all over the inside of your vehicle because windshields are made from laminated glass.

Can a car pass roadworthy with a cracked windscreen?

Windows and windscreen: There should be no cracks on the windscreen. All windows designed to open should be able to open and close. Windscreen wipers should be in good order and operational.

Will a cracked windscreen fall out?

Yes, cracked windshields can shatter while driving and cause serious safety issues. Moreover, understanding local cracked windshield laws and considering timely auto glass replacement or repair is important information every driver should know.

How do you fix a cracked windshield without replacing it?

A chip smaller than a quarter and a crack shorter than 3 inches can be easily patched with an epoxy repair kit, but a larger crack or chip may need a professional product or a complete replacement windshield. Be sure your kit fully covers the size of crack of chip on your vehicle before starting the repair process.

Do you accept card payments?
